Creating ruched ribbon from fabric

11/6/2012

Ruching (also known as shirring or gathering) a matching piece of ribbon fabric creates a wonderful embellishment for a sewing project, whether it be an article of clothing or something for the home.  It is very popular in many modern garments, as well as widely used historically as an embellishment, particularly in the 18th century.

The technique described in the tutorial is simple to do, easily adaptable to suit your preference or project, can be applied to almost any type of fabric ...and the fabric ribbon matches perfectly & doesn't fray because it is cut on a bias.
